Our History
Walbert Trucking, Inc. began in the winter of 1931 when William Earl Walbert purchased a 1928 Chevrolet from his brother, Carl Walbert. Ed Cox and Carl Walbert co-owned and operated Walbert and Cox, the first trucking authority between Louisville, KY, and Nashville, TN. Carl later pursued a career that became Walbert Oil Service.

Earl began hauling logs to a sawmill owned by his father, James D. Walbert. His first truck had a kerosene headlight, an all-wood cab, and solid rubber tires. As Earl began to acquire other trucks, his customer base began to expand. Many truckloads were unloaded in the Glasgow area, supporting the local economy.
When Earl died in 1970, his son, Tom, acquired the business and continued to build on the reputation of excellence that Earl had established. Walbert delivered hundreds of dairy cows to all 48 states, from the Kentucky-Tennessee area to thousands of feedlots in the west. Today, Walbert trucks are easily recognized in the midwest but no longer haul livestock.
In support of the significant increase in the number of trucks operated by Walbert, he purchased the land on Industrial Drive. In December 1977, Walbert Trucking, Inc. moved into a new terminal area that included new offices and modern garage facilities. Since that time, two additional bays and an inspection lane have been added to the garage, and the office area has expanded twice. He purchased two other properties on Industrial Drive. One of these properties joins the original terminal site, doubling its size for parking and future expansion. The second property includes a cross-dock operation.
In the fall of 1995, Jon Walbert, Tom’s son, joined the family business and is the primary force in operating and keeping the company on the leading edge of technology. In 2007, it became necessary once again to expand its operation. He purchased more land on highway 90, and most office operations, including dispatch, were moved into a separate corporate office facility.
Walbert recently installed satellite tracking in its trucks and is currently servicing its customer base in 48 states. Walbert’s success can be attributed to its longstanding policy of flexibility and adaptability to economic conditions by being a proactive organization and utilizing the best people in the industry.
Walbert Trucking, Inc. has always been a strong supporter of community organizations and activities.
